Not Ashamed of the Gospel – Romans 1:16

Many preachers claimed that this verse and the succeeding verse are the complete summarization of the book of Romans. Paul, a servant of God, wrote in this verse that he is not ashamed of the Gospel for it is the power of God for salvation. Perhaps, during his time there are so many people who are afraid and ashamed in proclaiming the Gospel.

Even during his time, it is very evident that there are many Christian persecutions and this is the reason why Paul wrote this and why God asked him to write this. It is not just a reminder for Christians in the time of Paul but it is also for our reminder.

Christian persecution has never stopped, it only evolved. Maybe unlike before that they will really kill the people who preached, nowadays are more likely a little bit more free (though there are still Christians in some countries lately that have been killed because of the Gospel). Therefore, this is a reminder for us all that we should not be afraid and ashamed of the Gospel.

The Gospel is the power of God for salvation. It is true, it is unfathomable and without error. The Gospel we are preaching was already made manifest when Jesus Christ died on the cross. It is therefore true and with evidence. We should not be ashamed of it, rather let us preach it boldly so many people will know what Jesus did for us all.

This Gospel is the only way we can be saved and there is no other way. We can never be saved through our own deeds and our ‘righteous’ acts as we call it. We can only be saved through the power of this salvation that was made possible by our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Therefore, let us not selfishly hoard this gift but share it to the people so they will know the way too.

Let us not be ashamed of the Gospel for it is the complete power of God’s love towards our lives. It is the greatest way of God’s saying He loves us. May we always treasure this gift and share it to other people so that they may know how much God loves them. Let us not hoard this because we are afraid of the possible persecution or because we are ashamed that our friends may laugh at us, instead, let us boldly confess our faith and share it to everybody no matter what the cost is.

Remember that Jesus Christ swallowed all the shame when He was hung on the cross for our sake, so let us do the same and become a good witness for the Gospel. We must always remember that Christian persecution is always present, it is just up to us if we will let it control us or if we will trust God’s deliverance and power. Hopefully, we will choose to trust God and have faith in Him. After all, He is a powerful God.
