The Right Way to Follow – Proverbs 16:25

“There is a way that appears to be right, but in the end it leads to death.” – Proverbs 16:25

For all the years we have lived in this world, we have developed a course of action and principles that appear to be right. We may have many times proved it, and saw that it is indeed right. Since we have these actions and principles, thus, we also developed our own definition of right. However, the Bible tells us a different story. The Bible opposes these courses of actions and principles that we think are right.

In our verse today, we can read that God wants us to understand that there is a way that we think appears to be right but in the end, it leads to death. Thus, we can see with this that it is really dangerous if we have these setup standards in our head that we think is right. We are always drawn into things that are not right, but still, we think it is right. Most of the time we have these strong opinions on how to live life and these opinions are nurtured to us through our family, peers, teachers, religions, and many more. However, all of these sources that are not based on the Word of God lead us to our death.

Indeed, it is hard to understand how come all of these principles that we are living under since we are young are leading us to death? It seems right, it is right! We are not stepping on anyone’s right, we are not being selfish, we are not abusing anyone, so it is really right. Yet, we try to defend ourselves with all of these assumptions without knowing that our hearts are the most treacherous thing in our bodies. As per our verse, there is a way that seems to be right for us, but we did not know that it will lead us to death. It is all because we have a treacherous heart, hidden motives and our definition of right is based on the world’s definition of right.

Now, we have to understand that our true basis of what is right and what is righteous should come from the Word of God. Our definition should align with the definition of God and how God sees it. Thus, we must align ourselves with the only divine truth which is the Scriptures. It is the ways of God that are right and that will not lead us to death. How all of it sums to Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior. Only through Him, who is our way, our truth, and our life, will we not be led to death. His ways are the right paths and only through Him, we will have life and not be put to death.

Therefore, let us not let these wrong assumptions and mindsets about the right things deceive us from really following the right path which is Jesus Christ. We have to always remember that there are really things we think are right but will lead us to death. However, if all of these things are based and secured on the firm foundation of Christ, it will not lead us to death but to life everlasting. Thus, we must make sure that everything we do and everything we base our opinions and principles on should be from the divine truth of God. We must never be deceived by all of these world’s principles and opinions, but we must be wise to see that it is only through Jesus Christ we will have eternal life and that we will be saved.
