Milk For the Soul – 1 Peter 2:2

“Like newborn babies, crave pure spiritual milk, so that by it you may grow up in your salvation” – 1 Peter 2:2
Mature or new born Christians are all called by Peter to crave for the Word of God like infants crave for their milk. It is very hard to understand but Peter used this analogy to make us realize that we are all infants in terms of our spiritual growth. There is no one who can really say that they are already spiritually matured and their knowledge of the Word is enough and there’s no need to study anymore. God continues to remind us that everyday, we need His Word.
We have to understand that we are all infants who need to always crave for our spiritual growth through drinking our milk which is the Word of God. Indeed that man does not live by bread alone but of every Word that comes from the mouth of God. We should not be so lax with our Christianity, knowing that since Sunday School we already learned about Christ. Instead, we must always depend on the Word of God because it is our shield, our food and our strength.
Knowing the Lord Jesus Christ and accepting Him as our Lord and Savior for a long period of time, does not guarantee us that we are spiritually mature enough. We have to always remember that the enemy knows us really well and he will always try to sift us away using that pride we have inside our hearts. Therefore, let us take heart and humble ourselves having the willingness to let the Word of Christ dwell in us richly (Colossians 3:16). Let us always remember that in order to grow, we must intake nutritious food and as Christians, we will grow if we continue to immerse ourselves in the Word of God.
It will not just make us grow spiritually, it will also make us wise for our salvation. In a sense that we will know how to continue to be on the path of light that God has given us. It is not new to us that our old self will always try to take us over but since we are given by Christ the strength to remain in Him, we must remain in Him. Although this strength is not given to us like a superhero given with powers but only through the Word of God. Therefore, we must always remember to crave for the Word of God as our spiritual milk and never forget to always immerse ourselves in the Word.
