Mercies in Every Beginnings

“Because of the Lord’s great love we are not consumed, for his compassions never fail. They are new every morning; great is your faithfulness.” COLOSSIANS 3:22-23

This writing is a declaration out of anguish, a lament written by the prophet Jeremiah for witnessing a time of great distress – the fall of Jerusalem and its people consumed. We can only imagine how painful and unbearable it must’ve been for him to witness it. For sure, for an ordinary eye that isn’t guided by faith, one can just fall down and live in hopelessness seeing the kind of distress it was.

However, Jeremiah recalled that he had hope in the Lord, the very words of God says of His great love, that awaken the faint heart of the prophet to write this awakening of his hope. He knew that God’s great love is immeasurable for His people, His mercies flow from His fatherly love.

Similarly, in times of our distress, of the things uncontrolled, or on the things we failed to control, may we not get tired of approaching the throne of God, for in Him we can find a renewed strength, restoration, a fresh vision, a revived and refined faith. Instead of falling into hopelessness, may we have high hopes that in the Lord, we can come and cry out.
