Instructions to Follow – Psalm 32:8

“I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will counsel you with my loving eye on you.” – Psalm 32:8

Every once and then, we have to be reminded about how loving our God is. We have to always remember that our God is loving and gracious to us. Ever since the world began, we are already sinful and despite our sinfulness, we are still loved deeply. Now, the writer of our Psalm today who is David realized this truth. After all, he is a man after his own God’s heart. However, he was not all perfect. He sinned against God, his sins made a barrier between him and God. When he was coveting Bathsheba from Uriah, he was actually willing to do everything to have her so he killed her husband.

Now, knowing all of these sins, there was a barrier between him and God, and that is what happens to us and God. As we continue to sin over and over with God, there will be a barrier between God and us and that barrier is sin. However, if we confess our sins just like David, He is faithful and just to forgive us for our iniquities. That is why also, David declared the goodness of God and His love through his psalms. One of these declarations is our verse today. He wrote that God said that He will instruct us and teach us in the way we should go, and He will counsel us with His loving eyes on us.

Ain’t that loving and sweet? We really cannot find anyone who loves us better and more perfect than the love of God. His love is indeed beyond our grasp and He will always be there to guide us. No matter how sinful we are, and no matter how evil we are, if we confess our sins, His love will just remain. Just like in the situation of David, he was an adulterer king. He was a man after God’s own heart, but he had his lapses too, and he became a man after God’s own heart after he confessed his sin and received the forgiveness of God.

Therefore, as people who are also like David– sinful and evil, but still, God will continue to love us and be willing to forgive us from our sins if we confess it to Him. Thus, we must always hold on to His promise and not sin anymore. We are so graced by God, and we don’t want to abuse this. Let us listen to the instruction of God and let Him lead us into the way we should go. May we always remember that His eyes are on us, guiding us and watching over us.
