Grace Revealed – Romans 3:22

“This righteousness is given through faith in Jesus Christ to all who believe. There is no difference between Jew and Gentile” – Romans 3:22
The title of this passage is ‘Righteousness through Faith’ which clearly shows the complete contrast of the sinful nature of the entire human race and with God’s complete and perfect righteousness. Humans’ sinful nature is laid out in the first chapter of Romans and Paul firmly stated that there is no one righteous. All of us are under sin and no one is exempted from the wrath and condemnation of God.
Before Christ came to the world, righteousness was displayed through the law which God has given to us through the old prophets. The standard of righteousness the law demands is unattainable because we are very sinful and it is impossible for us to complete the law without breaking one. However, in this passage, God has shed us some light about how we can attain righteousness apart from the standard of the law.
Paul clearly states that righteousness can be achieved by men only if we are imputed with God’s righteousness. Being imputed in God’s righteousness can only be given through the death, burial and resurrection of the Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. His death is for the forgiveness of our sins and for our everlasting life. God’s righteousness is only revealed in our justification by grace through faith in Jesus Christ.
Since the law sets a very high standard to achieve righteousness and by nature we are sinful therefore we cannot get righteousness through it. The law is made as a tool to expose human’s sinfulness and to point us always to the sin that we have committed. This is why God is reminding us that attaining righteousness is only through faith. We are to live by faith and not by works which the law requires. We are to live according to God’s grace and through faith in Him we will be justified.
The law offers an unattainable righteousness so we can never be righteous but God offers attainable righteousness. He offered Himself for us to be imputed by His righteousness. We are once more clothed in His righteousness and only through Him we can achieve righteousness. Let us be reminded that His righteousness can only be imputed to us through our faith and believing in the Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. This righteousness is open for all, men and women; Gentiles and Jew; black and white; and old and young.
Praise God because it is truly indeed through our faith in Jesus Christ that we can be saved, justified and become righteous. It is only through that we can receive this free gift from God through believing in the death of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. God revealed His grace in us through Jesus Christ. Indeed the perfection of Jesus Christ has been imputed in us and has clothed us.
