Call Out to God – Jeremiah 33:3

“Call to me and I will answer you and tell you great and unsearchable things you do not know.” – Jeremiah 33:3

Jeremiah was called a weeping prophet for one reason, he was always weeping for his nation. During his times, he was the prophet God sent to Israel so that he would remind them to repent and go back to God who brought them out of Egypt. However, Israel remained hard-headed and deaf to the callings of Jeremiah even to the prophets before him. So, Jeremiah was really weeping for his nature and had to even undergo mocking, loneliness, rejection and even imprisonment.

He was also a young prophet that God called out for His purpose. Now, as young as He is, people will not believe him and will never understand what he was saying. So, during these persecutions coming from the special race that God chose, Jeremiah was always weeping for this nation. Yet during this time, Jeremiah was also reminded of a comforting line from his writing which is, “Call to me and I will answer you and tell you great and unsearchable things you do not know.” He then understands that he was not alone in that battle and that God has called him into that purpose not to leave him but to be with him at all times, he just only needs to call.

This comforting verse comforted Jeremiah a lot and made him realize that God is always there for Him. He realized that God will fulfill His promises to the nation that He will bring them to the land of honey, that He will deliver them from all of their enemies and more importantly, that the salvation of this nation has hope which is coming soon. Indeed that Jeremiah only needs to call God every time and He will tell Him great and unsearchable things he does not know.

Now, this verse does not only apply to Jeremiah that time but this also applies to us, today. We are all having troubles and we do not even think that we will be able to rise above this. However, God is faithful and with this verse coming from the experience of Jeremiah, we ought to call Him. We have to reach out for God and He will indeed tell us great and unsearchable things. Although we do not understand this at first, it will make sense when the time is right.

Therefore, as Christians who are struggling in this fallen world, we must always remember to call God for help and do not forget that our God is a merciful God and He is our Father in heaven who sees everything we need. Thus, we must remain dependent on Him and never feel alone for God will always be there for us. Remember also that it is not God walking away from us but it is us walking away from. Now, instead of walking away from God, let us draw nearer to Him and call Him. He will indeed reveal so many things to us that are great and unsearchable things.
