By the Spirit of the Lord – Zechariah 4:6

“This is the word of the Lord to Zerubbabel: ‘Not by might nor by power, but by my Spirit,’ says the Lord Almighty.” – Zechariah 4:6
Sometimes, out of our doubtful hearts, we don’t believe in the power of God. Many times we are put into a situation where we choose to take the matters into our own hands because we admit or not, we think that God has nothing to do with it. We really think that there is something that we will lift up to God and there is also something that we don’t have to. There is this fine line that separates what things that we want God to solve or touch and the things that we don’t want God to touch and this mindset is very wrong
We have to understand that God is always there for us. As Christians, we should not make reservations and give God limited access to our lives. God should have the full control over how we live our lives in terms of obeying Him, believing in Him and living our lives in-sync with Christ. Now, our verse today reminds us of the promise of God to Zerubbabel. He is a descendant of King David, who was chosen by God to rebuild the Jewish temple after the Babylonian captivity.
As someone who was called to do a very big role, he was doubtful and scared. However, God secured His mind through promising that it is not by power nor by might but by the Spirit of the Lord. This is also applicable to us right now, we have to understand that God really works out for the goodness of His people. He who began a good work in us, will finish it and will carry it out. Thus, it is indeed by the Spirit of God that will fulfill and complete what He promised He will do.
Just like Zerubbabel, who God completed His work in Him, in us too God will complete His work in us. It is not by power nor by might but by the Spirit of God. All good things indeed work for those who love Him according to His purpose. Therefore, as Christians, no matter in what area God called us, let us focus on fulfilling it not by our action or by our own will but it is by the Spirit of the Lord.
We must remember not to make reservations or to pick which ones we should offer to God and ask God for help, instead, we should surrender our whole life to Him and believe in Him. Let us always remember that it is not about us but it is about the One who answers the prayers and the One who fulfills. Therefore, we have to always put in our minds that God who began the good work in us, He’ll be faithful to complete it. We have to always remember that God will fulfill everything He planned in us through His Spirit, not by power nor by might. Thus, let us surrender our lives to Him without reservation and put Christ as the center of our lives. Let us live our lives in-sync with Christ and walk with Him.
