God Gives Strength / Speaking the Truth / Listen to Your Father

He gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak. -Isaiah 40:29

God Gives Strength

Life can be a challenge, even the most pumped up and positive ones of us find ourselves broken and weary at some point in our life. In times where our world is in an upheaval, no matter who we are or how strong we are, trying to live life our own way and make decisions without God will be hard.  There have been times when we felt that we just couldn't go on any further and the stressors can be especially difficult to handle. But in these moments of absolute powerlessness, weakness, and brokenness the Lord is often most real, most powerful, and most present. God wants to be our strength, our wings, and our air current. He never grows weak or weary.  He loves to give power to the weak and strength to the powerless.

It is not enough to study, pray, and worship. These things alone will not strengthen our soul. We need to become people who watch, hope, and expect for the Lord, we must learn to wait for the Lord, to actively look for and pursue Him. Waiting for Him, means pausing our day to spend time with Him instead of continuing to try and make it without Him. A meaningful and personal relationship with God can give us inner energy and strength that can sustain us. He wants us to believe in Him when He says we can trust Him and He is going to help us. He is often refueling and refining us for what He has in store. God gives power and strength to those who believe in Him and those who look to Him for help. Let us be encouraged that as we wait, we end up even stronger after God renews us.

Speaking the truth in love, we will in all things grow up into him who is the Head, that is, Christ. -Ephesians 4:15

Speaking the Truth

Many Christians live aimlessly in this world. They have no goals, no instruction and no motivation. But as believers, our goal is to be mature into the full presence of Jesus Christ in the world by being his unified Body of believers. The ability to speak the truth in love is a sign of maturity in a Christian. Immature believers can fall prey to the false choice of speaking truth without love, or speaking love without truth. Truth is love and love is truth. Drop one and you lose both. Gain one and the other will come. Our goal to be mature enough can be achieved if we speak the truth, God's Spirit-inspired message, and do so with an attitude of love and so that we might be fully grown, mature Christians not misled by false doctrines and the persuasive words cleverly crafted to mislead us.

Every day, God's calling for us is to speak the truth in love when we care enough to speak the gospel into the lives of those around us so we may grow as fully matured Christians. How? First, we spit out the world by repenting. Second, we speak the truth in love and third, we keep growing like Christ. Our goal and means are clearly laid out here, to be more like Christ our head. Truth and love, are not to be compromised in any way, they are both essential to the glory of Christ and to be a person that is more like Christ in his attitudes, treatment of others and belief in God. Christian growth is essentially learning truth based on the commands of Christ and obeying them.

Listen to your father, who gave you life, and do not despise your mother when she is old. -Proverbs 23:22

Listen to Your Father and He Will Bless You

"Honor your father and mother." This is basic to God's plan for our lives. We, children should be a source of joy and satisfaction to our parents who brought us into the world, and have sacrificed so much time and energy to raise them us the right way. Our life depends on them. Our parents may fall short in some or many capacities, will weaken with age, but we still should honor them. God ordained parents, and He hand picked ours. Let's not get swept up in our era of parent-bashing. Let's bless our parents in ways that honor God. He will generously reward those who honor parents, but He will destroy rebels.

Not all of us have a true life guiding mother or father that raised us or spent time with us, or even treated us as they should have - and for this we have a true Father. We have another Father far greater than our earthly father, Almighty God Himself. He has done more for us than all natural fathers combined. He loves each and every one of us beyond our ability to understand it, to measure it and to contain it.  Let us listen to our earthly and Heavenly Father. Let us obey his advice. He knows more about life than we can grasp. He cares about us and our future more than we do. Let us follow the path that God has set before us and we will certainly be a blessing to our parents and we can be sure that our parents will be a blessing to us.
